Europe’s farming body Copa and Cogeca has urged the EU Commission not to progress with bilateral free trade talks, saying they could have a “catastrophic” effect on the beef sector.
EU beef prices have seen a sharp drop, with production costs rising, according to new figures discussed by European farmers’ organisation Copa-Cogeca last week.
EU beef can now be exported to the US, after the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) rule announcement last November came into force this month.
